When the opportunity came to reimagine an original historic Eichler, our team leapt at the challenge.
The 1964 home had fallen into severe disrepair—every major system failing, a kitchen crumbling at the touch, and a backyard so overgrown it resembled a fallen forest. And yet, through the bleakness, we saw glimmers of art: original Luan mahogany walls, floor-to-ceiling glass, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and the quiet beauty of a past generation waiting to be revived.
Our approach was simple: preserve and enhance. We restored every element we could, inventing new solutions to honor the home’s story—re-engineering the kitchen to compensate for nonexistent storage, exposing the original concrete floors buried beneath asbestos-laden linoleum, hand-restoring walls and closet doors, refining paint colors, and upgrading each bathroom with a modern sensibility while maintaining architectural integrity.
The entire home was redesigned for a contemporary family to experience the artistic intent of Joseph Eichler’s vision. Outside, we leveled and revitalized the backyard to create true California living: a firepit lounge, generous grass area, putting green, edible garden, and full outdoor kitchen. Every furnishing and décor choice was selected with intentionality to elevate daily living without compromising the home’s historic soul.
The 1,958 sq ft home on a 9,500 sq ft lot was fully designed in three months, followed by a three-month build and two months of furnishings—a complete revival of a midcentury icon.
